SunHacks is a hackathon hosted by students at ASU. It takes place at ASU this year in September. The requirement is that you have to be at least 18 years of age. You don't have to have any previous knowledge of coding to attend! You can go in teams of 1-4. The hackathon is a three day hackathon, so it is recommended that you bring sleeping gear, in addition to any computers and electronics you would like to bring. Ludum Dare is a bi-annualy 72-hour game creation challenge. Participants will need to make a game (every competition has a theme!) using their own custom designed assets in the 3-day time limit. Games that are submitted will be scored based on different topics, such as creativity, graphics, audio, and overall game design. Participants can make the game with as many people as they want. Hour of Code is an international introduction event to computer science! By participating, members, both veteran and novice programmers, will get a taste of problem solving using coding. Traditionally, the event is held during the Computer Science Education Week, which this year is between December 9th-15th. Participants compete in programming contests from December to February, with the most qualified and exceptional students getting selected for a summer training camp in preparation for the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI). Geeks Night Out is a free, family friendly festival held in Tempe annually. It allows organizations from all over Phoenix come and show off their STEM projects, from robotics to science experiments to programming. Take your family out and see the amazing effort students have put into their work! There will also be entertainment and food trucks. The Congressional App Challenge is an annually held national event. Students in their respective districts are challenged to create an application for the United States Congress! Winning teams are publicly announced and their works may be put on display in the United States Capitol Building.
